Alyson,

I finally got the courage to get my head out of my own ass and find out how you're doing. I too have been struggling with the whole "purpose" thing and I really appreciate reading about your feelings regarding work and health. You are one of the most joyful, impactful people I have ever met. Thank you for taking the time to write about your life and share this experience.

All the best,
Maureen

Absolutely right Alyson. Take the time to care for yourself because it really is a full time job. My husband has taken over a year off and he'll be going back part time in a few weeks. Don't rush it. Love your post.

Dear Alyson,
I often find that people have very definitive views about 'work', and those perceptions have a big impact on their own self-identity. Why define your self-worth by your definition of 'work'? Allana (below) is absolutely spot-on: focusing on your health is 'work', and a damn fine role to be taking on at the moment. What was it at your job that you felt so fulfilling? Counting hours at a desk? - the quantity of working time doesn't equate with the quality of a job. Sounds to me like you enjoyed helping people, being around people, and accomplishing....what exactly? Focus on that aspect - the feelings you associated with your job(s) - because 'success' can still be a feeling of living in the moment, for the moment. Carpe diem, baby.
all my love, Tania

"Success is fine but significance is the real name of the game."
A few quick thoughts.
Cam is the man. You are both such insightful people.
You focusing on being healthy is not just about focusing on you. We want you to be healthy. You being healthy is a gift to the rest of us. It is a full time job right now. The commitment you have to that task is nothing less than the commitment I've seen you give to any other challenge you have overcome. Recognizing your own signficance is part of this journey. You are important to us. You just being is significant to me. Very significant. Your effort inspires me. Keep up the good "work". Love you. Al.
